If it might be Z-80 related, it could be one of the "enhanced" Z-80s, with some peripherals on board and a 20-bit address bus with a simple MMU to map up to 1MB of memory into the Z-80's 64K address space. First was the Hitachi HD64180, which was available in a 64-pin DIP (something like 0.07" pitch pins, IIRC - probably still got the data book). I opted for the PLCC version pretty much as soon as it was available, and stopped using the original Z-80 for new designs. It also had a faster clock (6.144MHz crystal, perhaps frequency doubled), and some extra (very useful) instructions. Changed the core of a Z-80 based system from most of a Single Eurocard to one corner...... and something which is 64-pin DIP but can't recall what that is.
Subsequently Zilog brought out the Z80180 basically compatible with the Hitach device - now also discontinued.
