Debian • GNOME 44 for Raspberry Pi and Nautilus Expandable Folders Feature

Hello Raspberry Pi community,

I’ve been eagerly following updates about GNOME and recently read something exciting regarding the upcoming GNOME 44, codenamed "Riga". According to an article on OMG! Linux, GNOME 44's Nautilus will see the return of the "Expandable Folders in List View" option. This feature allows users to expand and collapse folders in a tree view style within the list view, which is incredibly useful for quickly navigating complex directory structures without losing the top-level overview.

This feature isn’t entirely new, as it was included in older versions of Nautilus. However, it was removed for a time to allow for significant refactoring of Nautilus’ views, making them more modern, flexible, and maintainable. Now that it’s making a comeback in GNOME 44, I am very interested in when this version will be available for Raspberry Pi. I find the expandable folders extremely useful, and its absence has been keenly felt.

Can anyone share insights or updates regarding when GNOME 44 might be rolled out for Raspberry Pi OS, or how I might access it when it becomes available? Additionally, is there any way to enable a similar functionality in GNOME 43.9? I'm specifically looking for a solution within the current framework of GNOME, without resorting to alternative file managers.

Thank you for any information or guidance you can provide!
