Fair enough thanks for the explanation. Sounds like the OP most definitely needs to find the data sheet for it.If it's only got 14 pins, the largest simple matrix is 7 x 7 and that's just 49 buttons. Any other row-column distribution would support fewer.
Some buttons may be duplicated but I can't imagine a full 13 buttons being duplicated on a 62 button keypad, though not impossible.
The assumption it would likely be a simple matrix could, with hindsight and that realisation, be wrong.
My guess would be that diodes are used so the number of cross-points and buttons can be doubled, or it's using an N-to-M decoder or a multiplexor to deliver selectable rows or columns. Charlie-plexing might be used but not commonly. I would personally exclude all those from a "simple matrix" definition.
