HATs and other add-ons • Re: Power & data over USB ports?

Sorry, I don't get that.
The Pi Zero has two microUSB sockets: one is power only, the other one is a standard USB (Power+Data).
From what I get from your description is that the Pi should act as a serial-to-USB gadget. The standard USB interface is all you need then.
