Troubleshooting • LDO on Raspberry Pi 4B just died?

I've been using an RPi 4B as a Minecraft server for a several weeks (not 24/7). Now I have rewritten the same SD card with a Bookworm image and ioBroker. After everything went successfully, the Pi stopped after about 2 hours and was no longer accessible. The case (an aluminum heatsink housing) was quite hot. After I unplugged the power and waited for the Pi to cool down and then tried to restart it, only the red LED remained lit. No activity anymore. When I opened the case I noticed that the thermal pad over the LDO was a bit brown.
So I measured the voltage on the GPIO pins and found that there was only 5V but no more 3.3V.
Does that mean the LDO has been smoked out? How can this happen? It ran perfectly as a Minecraft server for weeks and after just two hours of ioBroker the thing burns out? Is there anything else I might be able to test? (a fuse or something)
When I connect the power supply, the LDO gets hot relatively quickly (>60-70°C).
I suspect that means the Pi is defective and I can throw it away. But somehow I don't want to buy a new one anymore when they break for seemingly no reason.
