How that started (I think) I had my own personnel website. until the end of telephone dial up days, now with broadband webmaster put up massively big pictures and use HTML code to chop the picture to a fraction of the size and waste heaps of internet data in the process, Now internet is going so slow, the browser times out and says ẅebsite 404" if I refresh the page the website comes up, and the cost of hosting for the personal website priced it off the market.
I had a TXT file visitor recorder using PHP , it recorded what website the visitor came from, if it was from a search engine I could see what they put into the search box, sometimes I could edit the webpage to improve the website, it also recorded, date, time, screen height and width, and I could see if they went to any other page I had at the website, When it first started a lot of monitors where Glass CRT because the height:width was 3:4 ratio, then it went to LCD type and also small hand held units like cell phones
One night I put up a sightly unfinished webpage, within a few hours I could see a robot had found the page,
The point I was making, sometimes I would get a date, time but no other information, I thought someone was playing time wasted games,
But it seems it was search engine robots doing there tour around internet to make notes on my website.
These CAPTCHA came along at websites not long later, I had a page so websites visitors could make a comment, there was no abuse from visitors and I had dozens of visitors every day with my 20 pages, I see no need at all why I would want to add CAPTCHA at my web.
All I can think of some webmasters made add it to the cost of the website like ¨Get CAPTCHA it only cost $5 extra a month", for real cream for the webmasters bank account.
