Networking and servers • Accessing VNC from Ubuntu Linux With a Free Client

I am trying to set up so I can access the GUI of my PI's remotely via VNC. Here is my setup: A Pi 3B and a Pi 4, two x64 machines, each dual-boot with Windows 10 Pro and Xubuntu (Ubuntu with xfce). All connected by either Ethernet or WiFi. I did a fresh install of PiOS, created a user with password, and enabled VNC. I can access both Pi's through SSH.

From one Pi I can use the vncviewer to log into the other one; no problem. I have tried several ways to connect from Ubuntu to the Pi and keep encountering problems. I did consider downloading the RealVNC client, but if I read the Web site correctly, there is now a charge after a 14-day free trial. Here are the VNC client programs I installed using the standard software installer:

TigerVNC viewer says "No matching security types."
KRDC just shows a blank screen.
Vinagre closes the connection immediately and produces a lot of gtk errors.
SSVNC refused to install.
SDLVNC produces a segfault.
Remmina says "Unknown authentication scheme from VNC server: 13, 5"
SSL/SSH VNC Viewer refused to install.
Jvncviewer says "No configured security type is supported by 3.3 vnc viewer."

Has anyone been able to connect from Ubuntu by VNC to a Raspberry Pi? Thanks.
BTW, I am having similar problems trying to run a VNC client on Windows, but I will look into that later.
Thanks!
