A Pi5 should work good enough with KDE Wayland when Bookworm. So KDE5. It should work also with KDE6.1 on rolling distros, which means kernel 6.10 or so. There are still small Wayland issues though, some might be a bit annoying, but overall speed is great.RPI 5. KDE on top of RPIOS Lite. Bu the way, i have opened a bug report and i received an answer stating that hw acceleration will not be available under X11 anymore. I don't know if this is true or not. I do not understand the necessity of such change to be honest.
Also FireFox latest (128 or so) should use Wayland by default.
A Pi4 should also work from protocol point of view, but lacks internal bus performance to do certain KDE Wayland actions smoothly. I used that last year around this time with Opensuse Tumbleweed, was still KDE5.
GNOME should work better w.r.t. Wayland, but same as myself, you probably want KDE.
