If you run rpi-connect signin in the Raspberry Pi OS, you can right click the resulting URL and choose "Open URL" without interrupting the sign in process (alternatively, you can enter the URL into any browser you have, it doesn't need to be on your Raspberry Pi device).
As lpshano mentions, the key is not to quit the process that shows the "Waiting for a response" spinner as that is what will pick up your sign in and exchange it for an access token. It will time out by itself if you don't complete the sign in within 15 minutes.
