NVMe module connects on first 8 GPIO ports so it does get more than 5V from FPC cable. The FPC is only able to provide 5V@1A which might not be sufficient for your drive (there is a DC/DC which converts this to 3.3V for supplying the M.2 socket).
As I wrote in my first post tried with Gen2 and Gen3start with gen2 until you know your NVMe is running at all.
It is in cmdline.txtbelow command needs to be added to kernel command line (cmdline.txt) not config.txt
Neither did I but when you are desperate you will try anything you find on net.i never saw any effect in using 'pcie_aspm=off pcie_port_pm=off' with my NVMe.
In the end, the case was the issue, so I'm using Gen3 option with all power save features options OFF. There is no issue with power supply. My system has been rock solid for almost a month.
