Does anyone know if the Imager application should be able to clone SD cards directly and not via an image?

I have seen similar claims.

I don't think that is the purpose of the application.

I have never been able to get anyone to explain how it is done. (If it were possible. Which I doubt.)

I asked a similar question as a challenge 3 weeks ago. I did not get an explanation. viewtopic.php?t=379057&hilit=clone#p2266569

I strongly believe that the role of the Raspberry Pi Imager utility is to transfer the contents of an OS image (.img or compressed version thereof) on a bootable medium.

To go from a running, installed OS to another bootable medium such as a microSD card there is the SD Card Copier utility in the Accessories menu of the Raspberry Pi Desktop GUI.

There are also lots of 3rd-party, user-provided, solutions,
