Or a TSL230 light-to-frequency converter.
That would still need accurate pulse counting, something Raspberry Pi OS isn't good at
By that point you may as well just get an i2c light sensor setup like the BH1750, it only a couple of pounds, or about £5 delivered for 5 from AliExpress.

Gives you a nice LUX reading.
