Beginners • Re: How many LEDs can a Pico Power

Thanks for your replies.
Having looked at davidcoton's reply I have looked at the specification of a number of small LEDs. Most of them indicate that the LED requires a "forward current" of 25mA. this is a higher than the maximum power of a single pin of 12mA as stated by davidcoton. Suggesting to me that a single GPIO pin is not capable of powering a single LED. Also if the total current available through all GPIO pins is 50mA, this suggests to me that a Pico should only be able to power two LCDs as a maximum. This is clearly not correct. What am I missing?

"rpdom" mentions high-brightness LEDs that only need 1mA forward current. What "key words" should1 I be using to search for LEDs that will operate at 1mA current?

"Memotech Bill" Thanks for your reply. As I am new to electronics I have never used a transistors I will have to read up on their use
