Nothing can get damaged, the only problem you might have is through lack of power, not problems with the USB PD going bad. All problems are down to supplies not providing enough current, not actually damaging the Pis.I'm about to test the works fine together. I got a Pi 5 over Christmas at $10 off, but official power supplies were out of stock. Following New Year the store got a dozen more in. They were again out of stock by the time I went to pick one up.Plus being able to plug the PSU to any USB-C on any side is nice. And same for display output - on my laptop any usb-c on any side can be used for attaching external monitor. Sometimes it helps with cable clutter or too short cables.Plus being able to use any manufacturers PSU really helps. Lenovo, Dell, Raspberry Pi etc all work fine together now.
People constantly post trouble with typical USB-C power supplies not working well with a Pi 5. I now find myself in the same position, wondering if a USB-C iPad charger will damage it.
