Desktop or command line?

ame has given you one solution that'll work for command line access.

If you need the desktop I believe your options are:
  • Beg, borrow, or steal an HDMI capture device that works with your laptop and OS of choice. 4B and earlier also have composite out (400, 500, and Pi5 do not) so capturing that is also an option.
  • Serial link as above but run PPP or SLIP over it and a remote desktop (X11, vnc, etc) on your laptop.
  • VNC even when sat next to the Pi in question
  • Beg, borrow, or steal a smaller monitor. One that's easier to carry around.
