I looked into that file and it checks for `wayland=on` in the kernel command line before executing any of the other checks, so it would be preferable to add that to the end of `/boot/firmware/cmdline.txt` instead of editing the `/usr/bin/xfallback.sh` script itself
To summarise, you can get it working by adding `wayland=on` to the end of the `/boot/firmware/cmdline.txt` file
This works to enable Wayland on my Raspberry Pi 2 :^)
