Despite the rather underwhelming response so far (yes, I know it is only 2 days, but usually there is a response in that time frame), I wish to add a later experience.
I wen ahead and did the process described in the OP - generating a list of about 90 packages to install - many of which were things I recognized as things I usually install, but many not. I turned the list into a (giant) single line like:
apt install package1 package2 ... package90
And sourced that as root. To my horror, it started removing all sorts of packages, like raspberry-pi-uimods and, yes, eventually, something called "systemd". When the process finished (with some error messages), I decided to reboot to see if I still had a system or not. On the reboot, it came up to the GUI, but wanted a password (the usual GUI signon window). Since I couldn't remember what password (if any) I had put in, I eventually had to unplug power.
So, my question is: Why would it do this? Why would install'ing stuff cause it to remove stuff???
(I've always thought that "install" was a safe operation - you might end up installing something you didn't want or need - but it wouldn't ever destroy your system...)
Anyway, nothing really lost other than time. I will just re-image it and start the process over (most carefully this time).
