Raspberry Pi OS • Re: Looking to Update Legacy OS on NVRM Non-Destructively

The NVRM's are both about half full of a whole load of pictures, videos and archived stuff I cannot afford to loose or, indeed, want to have to off-load and re-install.
You will want to back them up because, if any in-place upgrade does go sideways, you stand to lose everything. Without a backup you could lose everything in an instant anyway.

While it might then be worth trying an in-place upgrade, figuring out the how to, it may actually be quicker and have more guaranteed success to start with a fresh install of the latest OS and then a re-install of what you backed-up.

Why Raspberry Pi OS does not support in-place upgrades has been discussed in other threads. It is an undesirable PITA, but it is what it is.
