Firefox is sluggish with hardware acceleration. So i am disabling the hardware acceleration in settings. Your other option is to use chromium browser. It does acceleration very well and you can watch 1080p youtube videos without frame drop. But I am talking about Rpi OS Bookworm. I don't know if Chromium would work ok on Ubuntu.Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to RPi and got my Pi 5 a couple of weeks ago - since I got it, I tried Pi OS, Ubuntu Server and now Ubuntu Desktop 23.10 and my performance is really bad! (and Pi OS is literally the ugliest OS I ever saw...)
I'm not using it much - just (in a perfect situation) a GNOME environment and some YouTube streaming. But even this doesn't work at all.![]()
Even at 720p, every video stutters around and is absolutely unusable, in 1080p... Let's just say, it does not get better. At all.
I have a pretty decent microSD card in it and the Armor Lite V5 from GeeekPi also works decent with 49°C max.
I tried some workarounds in Firefox like enabling "gfx.webrender.all" and some other options (makes it even worse) or h264ify (addon, doesn't help at all) and also overclocking it to 3100 MHz on the CPU and 900 MHz on the GPU doesn't help. Dropped frames at the moment with stock settings: 397 out of 1021 frames.
If you need some more details, please just ask - I don't know what you guys need to work with.![]()
Do you have any ideas left to try?
