@rpdom Thanks for that info, I have bookmarked it for if I ever feel that brave.

Right now I'm feeling like I've almost reached grey cell capacity.
I now have a bullseye lite version running on my Pi. I do have a monitor connected via hdmi and I have there a raspberrypi login:

Everything on the screen is green "OK" except for Failed to start LSB: resize the root filesystem to fill partition. Not a clue what that is about.
I don't think the Pi likes my basic USB keyboard as it fails on invisible password quite a lot, even when typed very carefully.

My PC desktop is fine, I can open terminal and ssh user and password on a different keyboard and that seems to work every time.

I thought a VNC window on my desktop of the Pi would have advantages without loading the Pi with GUI stuff, so I did enable VNC through the pi config and that took for ever to download and unpack all the files it needed. I then installed TigerVNC on my PV and tried to open a window to Pi desktop but I got cannot connect to server & also warned about security or lack of it.

So that's it right now I am no nearer getting my graphs on PVOutput except I have a running Pi.
FWIW W.r.t. VNC on a "headless pi (ie. no physical display)" and esp. RealVNC (server) the method(s) changed post "Buster" --> "Bullseye" and again with "Bookworm" (not running wayland etc. FWIW I have some notes here:
https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_p ... lseye.html
and here: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_p ... Pi2Pi.html
in particular how a (fallback) headless resolution is defined or the virtual server is run (post "Buster" Real VNC's virtual server had to be explicitly started). However I do start with a full desktop install, not a "light" version and, maybe, some additional programs might need to be installed. (Historically, one of the "drivers" for a "Light" installation, was the ability to be able to use cheaper/smaller uSD cards. These days, even though the "with desktop" build of the O.S. has continued to "grow" it is now smaller than than "good value for the size" uSDHC/XC cards and, unless one has a "stockpile" of small cards that driver is no longer really valid. I appreciate that there are other reasons for wanting to install a smaller O.S. build)
Trev.
