In a word no, I tried again just after Christmas but ran into the same issues, unfortunately, I asked how to track the mesa bugs but didn't get a reply and started to loose interest at that point.

In the end I gave up on Bookworm and the Pi5 for a desktop machine and went with a second hand micro format i5 PC and Mint, everything on that has just worked so far.
I was thinking about giving it another go soon but sounds like you have saved me the trouble...
